Kent a tourist magnet.

27/01/2011

According to the chief executive at Visit Kent, Sandra Matthews-Marsh, the connectivity with high speed rail links to the capital, London and over the rest of the continent, industrial heritage, Connection with Rolling Stones, historic houses, marsh lands rich with wildlife and the proximity to the approaching Olympic games have made Kent a tourist magnet.

She also said, “With a host of new things, going on in the area is exciting. The Ebbsfleet and the quick access to London have created an interest in tourism in Kent. In this part of Kent, tourism isn’t the focal industry as compared to other parts of the country. However, we have a lot of potential and are working with councils to ensure that the potential is maximized in the interest of the counties. And I personally feel there is a lot of potential for tourism growth.” She added that “North Kent is untapped still and with a multitude of things coming of age will help to put it on the tourist map of UK.”

Organizing Kent Big Day Out, Visit Kent offers thousands of tickets for free for more than hundred tourist attractions in the region that goes over the Big Weekend on March 26-27 in this year.

Sandra Matthew- Marsh said, “There is an increasing need to cater to the demands and over the years, we have been supported by Dartford Football Club. As the first club to get involved, they have offered free access to the sprawling grounds, free tickets and more.” She later added,” With a host of new developments in Dartford’s Central Park and it looks amazing. Another strong pull for tourists is the Mike Jagger link and maybe we can use that for more tourism. Additionally, the town has amazing heritage of music and like Liverpool, we could also do tours of the town showcasing Keith Richard’s and Mike Jagger’s favorite spots.”

According to Mrs. Matthew-Marsh, “We’ll be more than just spectators as in the 2012 Olympics, as North Kent has the ring side seats and numerous training venues including Dartford Judo Club and Princess Park Stadium. With the Olympics just round the corner, the whole area of North Kent and South East London, economy will be boosted with the increased visitors during the duration of the games.”
